Omid C. Farokhzad was born in Iran, but is now known as one of the United States’s most accomplished physicians, scientists, and entrepreneurs. He is one of the most esteemed members of the immigrant population, and he is this year’s Golden Door Awardee.
Omid Farokhzad has contributed to the medical field incomparably by developing nanotechnologies for medical applications and bringing nanoparticles to human clinical trials in efforts to cure deadly disease. Over the course of his career, Dr. Farokhzad has launched three wildly successful and important biotechnology companies: BIND Therapeutics, Selecta Biosciences and Blend Therapeutics. Hi work has led to his acceptance of awards, which are numerous and held in high esteem. Dr. Farokhzad was elected to the College of the Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and biological Engineering. He was a recipient of the 2013 RUSNANOPRIZE, one of the largest international nanotechnology prizes, for the development and industrialization of nanoparticle technologies for medical applications. In 2013, the Boston Globe selected him among the top innovators in Massachusetts and the Boston Business Journal selected him among the Health Care Champions for his innovations. In 2012, he was among the regional Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awardees. This year, IINE honors him with our most prestigious award.
Currently, Dr. Farokhzad serves as the Director of the Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Biomaterials at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, and a member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. His contributions to the fields of medicine, science, technology, and academia prove that he has lived a life of accomplishment, reputation, and service. We know he will continue his great work and remain a example of what life as a new American can become. We are proud to honor him this December.
